Boy where does the time go?

I ended up making Cardamom-Orange cookies for last month's Sugar High Friday dealio and never got around to pics or posting it. They turned out awesome, but I am a sucker for anything w/ cardamom in it and orange goes so nicely w/ it.

Menu yum yum

Monday: brats, french fries, and asparagus
Tuesday: Chicken and Noodles, broccoli
Wednesday: Bubble & Squeak
Thursday: Beef & Broccoli stir fry with rice
Friday: leftovers or something easy from freezer
Saturday: Peking Chicken wraps
Sunday: ------------
Monday: Chicken Divan, rice
Tuesday: Tilapia w/ Israeli couscous
Wednesday: Pork, asparagus, potato

I just realized when I say beef, it's usually elk.

This recipe comes from my mom's side of the family, her mother made it for her and my mom made it for me and now I make it for my mom. Odd symmetry but that's how it's worked out. It is comfort food for me, warm, comforting, nourishing, and completely yummy

You will need chicken and carrots. If I use boneless skinless chicken breast I brown chicken. If on bone I poach it, cool, and shred.

Noodles
3 eggs
3 Tablespoons water
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
Beat eggs till light and fluffy. Add salt and water - beat. Add flour and mix. Roll out and cut in strips and roll in flour. I like them big.

Fresh, very fresh fish

My boss and one of our bartenders showed up at the restaurant around nine in the morning with an ice chest of trout from a local fish farm. Our bartender who is also an excellent photographer is documenting via pictures our use of local foods. He did not take pictures of the fish slaughter that followed. 12 pounds of fresh trout, the only thing better is if you could catch them in the wild and use them, but alas that just is not legal (for a restaurant to do that is.)

On a less bloody note. I had an happy accident at work, my rhubarb cooked down too quickly resulting in a caramelized concoction. Vanilla cake with rhubarb filling and vanilla butter, yum. Lani and I ate the cake bits smeared with leftover filling and frosting while discussing the Derby party food and how must roast beast she would need.

Cookies for Defiant Chic

I made ANZAC Biscuits the other day, how I love them. The Martha Stewart recipes is the one I use, made even more convenient that I have the cookie cookbook she put out so I no longer have to search for the magazine.

I do make one change to the recipe by substituting corn syrup for the golden syrup. What can I say it's a mail order item for me and well I'm lazy.

Revived

The ovens oh how I love them, they got hugged last night.

I finally have working ovens again! They broke in December just as I was starting the holiday baking, it was a sad night. Well at first I was just angry and the merengues did manage to cook. But all I have had is a turkey roaster, now mind you has worked fairly well. it just is hard to do baked goods: cakes, muffins, bar cookies, cookies. Somethings it is just not good for or the results turn out marginal.

My turkey roaster. Which I made baking powder biscuits in for brekkie yesterday morning.
